Summerland, near Kelowna B.C.

Earlier this year, a fruit cooler in Summerland, where we waited all morning (after being told we must be there at 8am) to be loaded.
There is a hand written cardboard sign inside here which basically brags about how long they will take to load you if you complain!

Hi Cath, I hope things are well. I missread the post and was looking for a pic of the sign. I have seen it and think its disgraceful. I know it could be there "tongue in cheek" but have spoken to a few drivers about it and its a threat which will be followed through.

Cheers,Phil

I didn't go inside, but Mick saw it.
We were told to be there at 8am sharp, so we parked nearby all night and were on the bay at 8am...they started to load us just before noon!

Hi Cath,
Its me again.
I'm afraid being told 8am, then loaded late is fridge work... Same in Europe, you're only on log books? Even if it was a tacho I wouldn't put one in until I was loaded & leaving.
I sense you're getting depressed, you've been more than tolerant. Why not try another company?

I've got a mate (Nick, short guy loads of tattoos)who started with H&R, he hated em & left after 6 months.... Went to Transex in Calgary, stayed 18 months. He is in UK now, but intends to go back after he has done the summer on EST (Edwin Shirely - you rock, we roll)on the Madonna tour.

Read the Caldwell's in Canada.... He doesn't put up with too much, but seems to find work easily?

I must say Canadian employers to seem to be a bunch of cunts on the whole. I've watched a couple of the Ice road truckers progammes, not that impressed. Old trucks, plenty of breakdowns & all the driver's fault... Sometimes maybe, not all the time.

Things are just picking up at home, you can always come back? Many have.

Kind Regards,

Alan Douglas

Hi Alan,
I am well aware of the nature of fridge work, and I did use the log books properly, but being an unpaid security guard was not my bag.

I am now back in the UK taking up agency work, which is a shame as we both loved Canada and the job (the good bits) but not the way the company treats people.
